The Philippine Olympic Committee executive board Friday approved the endorsement of Youth Olympic Games Chef De Mission Jonne Go to reward YOG silver medalist Cristian Tio of Kiteboarding.
The board, chaired by Cong. Abraham “Bambol”Tolentino, unanimously approved the allocation of Five Hundred Thousand Pesos as cash incentive for his second place finish in the sport.
He was the lone Filipino athlete to win a medal in the tournament.
The Fil-Norwegian started young in the sport, at the age of 7, under the tutelage of his parents, who were both professional kiteboarders. He won numerous tournaments in the age group category before his strong finish in the recent YOG held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
POC president Ricky Vargas said “the board had no second thoughts about granting this incentive. The achievement of this young man gives inspiration to the many grassroots athletes who aspire to give glory to our country. It also continues our initiative to reward outstanding performances by our athletes”.
