JAKARTA—Billy Joseph Ang watched helplessly from the shore of Ancol Beach as the jet ski competitions kicked off on Thursday in the 18th Asian Games.

The reason?

Indonesian Customs refused to release his jet ski that was at the Jakarta International Airport Customs Warehouse since Saturday.

Philippine delegation officials profusely sought for the boat’s release, even elevating their request to top Indonesian government officials, to no avail.

“Customs problems. Even the Vice President of Indonesia [Jusuf Kalla] intervened but the Customs officials didn’t budge,” said Team Philippines Chief of Mission Richard Gomez.

As a result, Ang was DNR or Did Not Race in the Moto 2 of the 1100 Roundabout Stock event. (IMAGE FROM KYT HELMET PILIPINAS FB)
