Fil-American Christiana Means missed the cut but still made to the semifinals to join fellow Philippine bet Margielyn Arda Didal at the World Championship of Skateboarding in the Street League Skateboarding (SLS) PRO Championships in Rio Janeiro, Brazil.
Means placed 12 among 40 competitors in the elimination round, with only the top 11 getting the ride to the next round.
With luck on her side, the automatic slot reserved for Kate Shengeliya from Moscow, Russia was made vacant when the latter failed to show up for the competition.
Margielyn Didal, owing to her Asian Games gold conquest in Jakarta last year, gained a free ticket to the semifinals with her lofty world ranking.
Monty Mendigoria, president of the Skateboarding and Roller Sports Association of the Philippines, said this is the first time that two Philippine bets have qualified to the SLS, the biggest skateboarding competition in the world.
Didal and Means will battle with 22 other semifinalists for slots in the medal round.
