How will the international community celebrate the Olympic spirit during the Covid-19 pandemic? The Philippine Olympic Committee will share its own unique way of celebrating the Olympic Day 2020 with activities that will run from June 23 to June 30.
The Olympic Day is an annual celebration wherein NOCs from all over the world organize events that are focused on celebrating Olympic Values of Respect, Friendship, and Excellence. Because of the current pandemic, the Philippine celebration will primarily use the social media platforms in partnership with the Philipine Olympians Association (POA) and Athletes’ Commission. POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and POC Secretary General Edwin Gastanes will meet the media via online press conference on June 22 at 11 am. Zoom link will be sent to media. Representing the Olympians are POA board members Ms. Akiko Thompson-Guevara and Athletes’ Commission member Jessie Lacuna.
In line with themes of Move, Learn, and Discover, the POC’s Olympic Day campaign will include showing of videos that will highlight several sports, training video, a Facebook webinar about Olympic values in these trying times, and a Move campaign for both athletes and the general public. The POC will also share the worldwide campaign from the International Olympic Committee as part of its solidarity with the international community.
