Jiu-Jitera Ochoa Gold sa JJAU Aktau Tilt

PALABANG pumang-4 sa 15 naglabo-labong bansa ang pito 12 na pambato ng  Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Philippines upang makabalibag ng pitong medalya, tampok ang isang gold sa 3rd Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union 2018 Asian Championships noong Hulyo 10-15 sa Mangystau Arena sa Aktau City (dating Sevchenko), Kazakhstan.

Angkla sa atake ng Nationals si three-time  International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation world champion Margarita ‘Meggie’ Ochoa na binitbit ang Nationals sa 1-2 finish sa Ne-Waza women’s senior under-49 kilogram category ng 6-day jiu-jitsufest.

“Thank you, Lord God for your protection and for granting us the patience and resilience to overcome obstacles and unexpected circumstances. It’s been quite a journey with countless stories to tell from this year’s Asian Jujitsu Championship in Aktau, Kazakhstan,” litanya noong Miyerkules, Hulyo 18 ni Ochoa, bronze winner sa nakaraan taong torneong ito sa Hanoi, Vietnam.

Papunta sa tagumpay, lusot ang 5-foot-2, 28-year-old, Makati City-based  at dalagang jiu-jiteira sa finals laban sa kababayang si Kaila Napolis, 2-9, sa semifinals kontra Yasmeen Alkhatib ng Jordan, 5-0, at sa quarterfinals kay Deepudsa Siramol ng Thailand, 9-0, tapos mag-bye sa Last 16.

“Congratulations to everyone in the Jiujitsu Federation of the Philippines for the awesome performance! We ended up being 4th overall with only 12 athletes in the lineup gaining 7 medals and joining only the newaza category. Great tune up for the Asian Games 2018 come August!” pangwakas ni Ochoa.

Pumalaot sa finale si Napolis sa demolisyon kina Kazakhstan’s Suraubekova Marzhan (2-0), United Arab Emirate’s  Al Rashdi Meera (100-0) at Thailand’s Boonsorn Suwanan by superiority.

Naka-silver medal din sina Jan Cortez sa Ne-Waza men senior -56-kg sa 4-1 win-loss record, at Marc Lim sa Ne-Waza men senior -69kg sa 4-1 W-L mark din.

Bronze naman ang hinagip nina Carlo Peña sa N-W men sr. -62kg, Hansel Co sa Ne-Waza M sr. -77kg at Annie Ramirez sa Ne-Waza W sr. -62.

Ang top 3 sa medal tally ay ang host Kazakhstanis na may 13-25-23, Thais na naka-13-4-10 at Turkmenistanis sa 9-5-4.

Lumapag na pang-anim sa Hanoi 2017 AJJU Championships ang ‘Pinas sa 3-0-1 medalya. (Ramil Cruz)
