Zamboanga City 1st, QC 2nd in National Wrestling Open Zamboanga City reigned supreme once again in the 2008 2nd Quarter National Wrestling Open Championship held last May 29 – 31 at the National Wrestling Gym, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila. The Zamboanga City Wrestling Team successfully defended its reputation as the country’s strongest wrestling team by winning 19 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals in the country’s premiere quarterly wrestling competition. First runner–up is the Quezon City Wrestling Team bannered by the phenomenal Alvin Lobrequito who snared two gold medals (one in Greco–Roman and one in freestyle in the cadets 50 kg division). The 16 year old Alvin Lobrequito is also the co–MVP of the 2008 Parañaque Wrestling League where he swept all his matches – besting all grapplers including those in the senior age category. Rounding up the rest of the top ten teams, according to rank are: Philippine Air Force, Parañaque, Dumaguete, DEFTAC, Benguet, Philippine Army, Muntinlupa and Las Piñas. The Wrestling Association of the Philippines (WAP) organizes the quarterly wrestling championship, which forms the basis for selection into the Philippine Wrestling Team for the schoolboys and schoolgirls, cadets, juniors and seniors age categories in the Olympic events of Greco–Roman, freestyle and women wrestling. ----------------------------------------------- For more information you can get in touch with:
